When you want to eat traditional Piedmontese fare:
Da Cianci Piola Caffè
Cianci is a trattoria, or better yet, a “Piola” in the Piedmontese dialect. It is the epitome of a traditional village tavern: simple, unsophisticated, with genuine food and good wine. It is popular with students, families and a little bit of all the local Turinese for an informal meal. The prices are low, the service is very fast, and they do not accept reservations. It’s for those who want to try authentic, home-made Piedmontese cuisine, but without the need for formality. The location is very beautiful, in a square from Turin’s medieval period, but keep in mind, the tables are very close! It is the experience of feeling at home and living like a Turinese.

The traditional cuisine is exceptional (especially the first courses!) and there are excellent wines to be tasted. Recommended especially in summer, when the tables in the outdoor area offer a beautiful view of the city. It is the experience of a meal “above” the city, in a relaxed environment that will make you forget the traffic and stress down below.

When you want something different from traditional cooking:
Osteria in Vino Veritas
In Vino Veritas is an Italian restaurant, active for twenty years. The style “hand-made” and low prices make it an attraction for the young people and students who populate this area of Turin. The cuisine is homemade and uses fresh raw materials from the market. If you go there in the evening, you will find yourself in the middle of one of the liveliest districts of Turin’s nightlife. It is the authentic experience of the Vanchiglia district, a neighbourhood of students, artists and artisans (the “alternative” neighbourhood).

Arcadia Restaurant & Sushi Bar
Arcadia is one of the restaurants of the Food & Company chain that belongs to Piero Chiambretti (I also recommend Birilli for a secluded and impressive location and Fratelli la Cozza for pizza in a splendid courtyard interior). Arcadia serves Italian cuisine and is also a sushi bar and in both cases the preparations are excellent. The restaurant’s location is in the spectacular Subalpine Industry Gallery in the centre of Turin. It is the experience of an excellent meal in a central and exclusive location.
